Jacob Collier: Moon River Cello Cover
For the introduction, just like how Jacob got 138 musicians and celebrities to sing the word "moon", I also got 138 cellists from all over the world to send me a single note! The rest of the cover is written for (roughly) 10 cellos. The first third of the piece is sans vibrato except for the melody, because Jacob originally hummed the first third of the piece. The second third introduces the vibrato back for all parts. The final third features a modulation to D half sharp major and more advanced microtones (yes, I did really play in the half sharp keys, I didn't just pitch adjust it after the fact). This section to me is the most emotionally powerful moment of the entire piece, and I think the timbral change by modulation to a half sharp key only adds to that impact. The coda has this incredibly difficult slow rise in tuning which brightens up the timbre of the 10 cellos.
Legend of Korra: Greatest Change
This phenomenal piece (from "Legend of Korra" season 1 episode 12) is composed by the one and only @Jeremy Zuckerman. The track occurs during the final scene of the season, when all seems lost. I absolutely love the lush chords and the epic build-up to the Avatar theme. For my arrangement, I went with 8 cello parts to fill out the chords and also chose to keep a lot of the melodies in very high octaves on the cello.
On this project I got the amazing Zlatomir Fung to play the solo erhu parts on the cello! In order to more closely match the timbre of the erhu, Zlatomir used judiciously placed glissandos and went way up on the D and G strings. His interpretation is as always incredibly wonderful.
Super Smash Brothers: Every Main Theme
This is my cover of every Smash theme that plays in the opening cinematic! For this project I did a mega collaboration with Ken Kubota, Luiz Fernando Venturelli, Nicholas Yee, and Sihao He.
Super Smash Bros. has always had a special place in my heart. For a long time this was the only video game that I would play consistently! As you can see in the background of my parts, I have collected a fair amount of Smash related peripherals and trinkets. The music is so exciting that it gets the blood pumping, ready for a fight. I am incredibly thankful for the talent of my friends, and I believe they have captured that essence through their playing.
